Weddings & Events
Weddings and special events at the Adamson House and Malibu Lagoon State Beach are booked through California State Parks, not through a private venue. State Parks requires a Special Event permit for any group of 25 or more people, any equipment brought in (sound, a stage, lights, flowers, chairs or tables), or any paid service. Start by emailing Malibu.SpecialEvents@parks.ca.gov or calling (818) 570-1512.
Permits at a Glance
When You Need a Permit
California State Parks says you need a Special Event permit at Malibu Lagoon State Beach if any of these apply:
- Your group has 25 or more people.
- You bring equipment that is not part of the park, such as amplified sound, a stage, lights, flowers, chairs or tables.
- Payment is collected, or you pay for a service that is not provided by State Parks.
Email the Special Event Coordinator at malibu.specialevents@parks.ca.gov for current prices, guidelines and open dates.
Weddings at the Adamson House
The Adamson House gardens look over the lagoon, Surfrider Beach and the Malibu Pier, and they are covered in Malibu tile, with fountains and a tiled pool. State Parks lists weddings with special events: Malibu.SpecialEvents@parks.ca.gov, (818) 570-1512. The grounds stay open to the public every day, 8 a.m. to sunset, so plan for visitors nearby.
See Adamson House for tours and history.
Group Tours
Groups of eight or more who want an Adamson House tour must reserve at least 30 days ahead at ah.specialtours@parks.ca.gov. Group tours are on Wednesdays.
Filming and Photography
Commercial or student filming or photography in the park needs a permit from the State Parks film permit coordinator: (818) 880-0358.
School Field Trips
- Guided field trips at Malibu Lagoon are run by the Santa Monica Resource Conservation District.
- Self-guided trips or trips led by another organization: email malibu.fieldtrips@parks.ca.gov to arrange your visit.
- Adamson House: State Parks does not currently offer field trips there.
Events on the Malibu Pier
Events on the pier itself, including weddings and private dinners, are handled by the pier's operator, Malibu Pier Partners, through malibupier.com.
